A planet hotter than most stars

Astronomer Scott Gaudi, Thomas Jefferson Professor for Discovery and Space Exploration, co-led an international team that has discovered the hottest planet known. The team has been tracking the distinctly odd planet since mid-2014.

OSU Team Discovers Failed Supernova

For the first time, astronomers have seen a dying star collapse directly into a black hole, rather than explode as a supernove. The star was about 25 times as massive as our Sun, and this fizzle could explain why astronomers rarely see the most massive stars explode.

There will soon be a brand-new, state of the art planetarium in downtown Newark! The Works: Ohio Center for History, Art & Technology and The Ohio State University at Newark will build a $1.4 million SciDome planetarium at The Works' campus in downtown Newark.

David Weinberg was surprised at our morning Astronomy Coffee today to learn he has been named a Distinguished University Professor. The Distinguished University Professor title is awarded to no more than three exceptional faculty per year.

Sad News About Gary Steigman

We are incredibly saddened to report the death of Gary Steigman, our friend and colleague. Gary passed away on April 9, 2017 from injuries he suffered in a bad fall the previous week.
