Workplace Culture & Department Success Committee
The Workplace Culture & Department Success (WCDS) Committee is dedicated to fostering a positive, supportive, collaborative, and productive environment for all members of the Astronomy Department. Our goal is to help strengthen workplace culture, encourage meaningful engagement, and promote the success of all members of our community—undergraduates, graduate students, staff, and faculty.
What We Do
The committee works proactively to identify factors that shape our department climate and influence the academic, professional, and personal success of our members. Through ongoing feedback, open lines of communication, and collaboration across groups, we:
- Monitor and strengthen department climate, building upon the existing Department Code of Conduct.
- Identify opportunities to improve well‑being and belonging so that all members of our community are equipped to do their best work.
- Recommend and support initiatives that address emerging issues related to culture, engagement, and departmental effectiveness.
- Facilitate conversations and events—such as departmental forums, discussions, and community gatherings—that highlight topics essential to our collective success.
Our Commitment
We are committed to cultivating a department where everyone feels valued, heard, and empowered. By bringing forward issues that affect our community and helping implement solutions, the WCDS Committee works to ensure the Astronomy Department remains a place where people—and their ideas—can thrive.
