Spring 2021 Advising Schedule:

All advising appointments will be held through CarmenZoom until further notice due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. Instructions on how to access Zoom can be found below. David can be contacted in the following ways:

  • By email at Emails will be read and responded to during regular business hours: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm US Eastern Time, with the exception of university holidays.
  • Drop-in Advising: Drop-in Advising is for quick questions that students anticipate will take 10 minutes or fewer to discuss. No appointment is necessary - just stop by if you have a question!

    To access my drop-ins, please follow the CarmenZoom instructions found on my staff page: When you enter, you will be placed into a virtual waiting room, and I will meet with students individually in the order in which they arrived, as I would with in-person drop-ins.

    For Spring semester (January 11-April 30, 2021), drop-ins will be held on Tuesdays at 10:00am-12:00pm noon, US Eastern Time
  • Express Advising: Express Advising sessions will be offered during times of the semester when there is high demand for academic advising. Express Advising will work similar to virtual drop-in hours in that students will log in to Zoom using the instructions found here: and I will meet with them one-on-one. No appointment is necessary. Spring 2021 Express Advising sessions are scheduled for:
    • 1st week of the semester (January 11-15): 9:00-10:00am; 3:00-4:00pm EST
    • 2nd Friday of the semester (Friday, January 22): 3:00-4:30pm EST
    • 4th Friday of the semester (Friday, February 5): 3:00-4:30pm EST
    • Autumn Registration and Withdrawal Dates:
      • Friday, March 26: 9:00-10:00am; 3:00-4:00pm EDT
      • Friday, April 2: 9:00-10:00am; 3:00-4:00pm EDT
      • Thursday, April 8: 9:00-10:00am; 3:00-4:00pm EDT
      • Friday, April 9: 9:00-10:00am; 3:00-4:00pm EDT
  • 30-minute Appointments: In general, I am available for appointments between 8:30am and 4:30pm US Eastern Time on weekdays where the university is open, unless I have another obligation or meeting. You may schedule an appointment with me in one of the following ways:
    • Assigned Advisees: Appointments for any assigned advisees can be scheduled through OnCourse at
      • Choose "Physics Advising Office" for the location, and
      • Choose "Phone/Remote Appointment" for the appointment reason.
      • Appointments must be scheduled at least 12 hours in advance
    • Prospective Majors and Minors: If you are not an assigned advisee but are looking to add an Astronomy & Astrophysics major or minor, please email me to set up an appointment.
