2025 Allan H. Markowitz Prize to Debosmita Pathak

Debosmita Pathak
The Markowitz Award is given to a graduate student who is conducting or developing a research program in areas of observational astronomy. The award is made possible by a generous gift from Ohio State doctoral alumnus Dr. Allan H. Markowitz (MS 1966, PhD 1969).

This year, we award the Markowitz Award to Debosmita (Deb) Pathak. Deb has published five first-author papers to date, including 3 this year. They have made fundamental observational measurements of mid-IR emission in galaxies using JWST. They are an expert in multiwavelength analysis, synthesizing data from across the electromagnetic spectrum with JWST, MUSE, HST, and ALMA, regarding stellar feedback, the properties of HII regions, and dust emission in galaxies. Deb is an integral part of the PHANGS team, taking a large part in quality assurance of the large PHANGS JWST programs.
