2nd Friday deadlines
- Adding Classes/Switching Sections of the same class:
This week, you can only change sections or add a new class to your schedule with written (email) instructor permission. You should either cc me on the email when you ask for permission or you should forward me the permission once you receive it, as these adds/changes can only be processed through an advisor with documentation.
The deadline to do this is Friday, September 5.
Per emails from Dr. Wayne Schlingman on Friday, if you are an upper-classman and want to add Astron 3810 (Order of Magnitude Astronomy) and/or Astron 4193 (“Writing Jail” Seminar), please just email me – no instructor permission is required to enroll you this week!
Please also note that some departments, particularly for coordinated courses, may require permissions to go through course coordinators and/or other department contacts. Examples:- Language 1101/1102/1103/1155 courses generally require permission of the Language Coordinator for that department
- For Physics 1250 and 1251 (though not 1270), permissions can only be given by the course coordinator, Dr. Michael Ziegler.2
- For Math courses, all changes for 1000- and 2000-level courses must go through the Math Advising Office.
Details on getting those courses changed can be found on their web page here (scroll down to “Second Week of Class”)
- Dropping Classes:
Classes can still be dropped “freely” in Buckeye Link this week without appearing on your transcript (through the 4th Friday, September 19). If this is your first semester at OSU, you will need to go through your advisor to drop a course. If it is not your first semester, then you can drop a course on your own via the “Drop a Class” function in Buckeye Link.- Refunds for dropped courses: courses dropped by 11:59pm on Friday, September 5 will be refunded 75% of the tuition costs if your bill would change as a result. Keep in mind that if you remain at full-time status (between 12-18 credits) with or without your dropped class, then your bill will not change, and no refund is necessary.
- Enrolling in Research Credits: If you plan to enroll in Astronomy or Physics 4998(H)/4999(H) to earn credit for research work you are already conducting with an OSU professor, the deadline to do so is this Friday, September 5. (Note: this is not a class that will help you to get involved in research.) Instructions can be found here:
- Astronomy: https://astronomy.osu.edu/undergraduates/undergraduate-research/research-course-credit
- Physics: https://physics.osu.edu/undergraduate-research-0 (expand “Research for Credit” section)
- Note that if you register for thesis credit (4999/4999H) and plan to graduate in Spring 2026, then you must submit your undergraduate thesis application by Friday, September 12 if you are in the ASC Honors program (details here) or by Friday, October 17 if you are not in the ASC Honors program (details here).
- Drop-in Advising for Autumn 2025:
Remember that I now have drop-ins both Wednesday mornings and Thursday afternoons!
(See below or on my staff website for details).
