Sultana Nahar receives William Fowler Award

Dr. Sultana Nahar, a research professor in the Department of Astronomy, has received the prestigious William Fowler Award for Distinguished Research in Physics from the American Physical Society. Nahar's research focuses on the fundamental physics and astrophysics of energy propagation through stellar interiors, defined as the opacity. The award is named in honor of Ohio State alumnus William Fowler, who won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1983 for his work on stellar nucleosynthesis.

Dr. Nahar, was also recently awarded the Student Organization Outstanding Advisor Award. Dr. Nahar is a dedicated physicist who goes above and beyond the call of duty in her service to students, including by advising the International Society of Muslim Women in Science here at Ohio State. As an advisor, Dr. Nahar is always available and proactive, ensuring that events are well-organized, and students have the guidance they need to grow as leaders. From advising on program logistics to personally funding resource gaps, Dr. Nahar’s commitment is unwavering. She helps to connect students to meaningful opportunities for networking and mentorship. Dr. Nahar actively promotes STEM engagement, advocating for students at OSU and beyond. Her leadership has been instrumental in sustaining and growing the organization, ensuring its long-term success.
