Dr. Nahar is a leader in atomic astrophysics. Dr. Nahar has made important contributions to our understanding of photoionization, electron-ion
recombination, opacities, and atomic structure, developing methods and databases used in astrophysics. She has also applied atomic and spectroscopic techniques
to biomedical problems and other interdisciplinary research. Dr. Nahar is co-author of the textbook Atomic Astrophysics and Spectroscopy (Cambridge
University Press) and founder of the NORAD atomic database. She is a Fellow of the American Physical Society, received the APS John Wheatley Award for her
efforts to advance physics research and education, and was honored with the 2025 William A. Fowler Award for Distinguished Research in Atomic Astrophysics. Dr.
