Dear Members of the Department of Astronomy,

I am writing to thank Professor David Weinberg for his outstanding leadership across the last eight years.  The Department of Astronomy continues to contribute strongly to the mission of the university; by any metric the department is a high performing organization.  There is so much that he and you can be proud of in terms of accomplishments.  I will not try to list them.  This could be intimidating to your new chair.

I am pleased to announce that Professor Todd Thompson has kindly agreed to serve as your next chair beginning July 1.  Please give him your strongest support.  I look forward to working with Todd and the other members of your department as I know you maintain high aspirations for the department.
