Title: The Most Productive Scientist Is a Happy Scientist: Things I Wish I Knew as a PhD Student, Postdoc, and Professor
Speaker: Floor Broekgaarden (UC San Diego)
Abstract:
Academic training teaches us how to do research, but rarely how to build a sustainable and fulfilling career doing it. Many of the skills that matter most belong to academia's hidden curriculum: the unwritten rules and practices that people learn late, by accident, or not at all. In this talk, I share my 2 cents on that hidden curriculum: what I wish I had known (from PhD student to postdoc to faculty member), and what I believe are resources everyone in academia benefits from to increase feeling of belonging, worklife balance, and research confidence.
