Title: Growth and Demographics of OSU Physics (+ Astro) Majors

Abstract: OSU’s physics and astronomy departments face major challenges with the growth of their undergraduate major size, and with the lack of diversity in the major.  In this talk, I place OSU’s challenges in a national context.  I describe the work I am performing as part of a special assignment in the physics department, to study national trends and coping strategies.  I will describe some directions I think the departments should consider in order to manage the growth of the programs more sustainably, and make the majors (and departments) more diverse and inclusive.
