In this DJC, we will watch and discuss the talk "Recommendations to Retain and Advance Women of Color in STEM" by Mia Ong as well as discuss the article "Taking Equity-Minded Action to Close Equity Gaps" by Malcom-Piquex and Bensimon.    These materials were recommended as preparation for the upcoming TEAM-UP report implementation workshops. For reference, we were selected to participate in these workshops to aid in incorporating the recommendations of the AIP TEAM-UP report to increase African American representation in undergraduate physics and astronomy. The first workshop is next week, January 28-29, and we are sending three representatives (Kiersten Boley, Rachel Slaybaugh, and Scott Gaudi). As preparation for the upcoming workshop, we were asked to undertake some reading and reflection. In particular, we were asked to: Use the rubric in Appendix 8 of the TEAM-UP report to conduct a self-assessment of the department's current status. Collect data on our department's current representation and reflect on how our department can do more to attract and support African American students Review the talk "Recommendations to Retain and Advance Women of Color in STEM" by Mia Ong. Read the article "Taking Equity-Minded Action to Close Equity Gaps". Thus, the goal of this DJC is to undertake these steps. We are in the process of collecting the department data and then plan to do the department self-assessment.   How to join This meeting will be conducted via Zoom. The link was sent to the department.
