The primary IT service provider for the Department of Astronomy, and functions as a member of the Arts and Sciences Technology Services (ASCTech) Operations – Support team, providing all aspects of computer hardware and software support to the College; maintains users’ IT hardware and software, and computer-related instruments and devices; troubleshoots and resolves problems; installs and deploys new/upgraded hardware and software; directly supports other IT facilities such as laboratories, clinics, AV-equipped conference rooms, and computer classrooms in the College; provides technical advice and guidance to IT users including researchers and administration; partners with researchers to actively aid in the design and creation of experiments and experimental tools; recommends solutions and services to meet IT users’ needs; advises on and promotes prescribed security and risk management practices and principles; develops use of technology solutions for faculty research, teaching, and administration; works with ASCTech service providers to manage and carry out all phases of the IT hardware and software life-cycles from need specification to procurement to deployment to decommissioning; specifies and procures needed IT services from ASCTech and OCIO; monitors such services and triages troubleshooting with ASCTech and OCIO; is primary external advocate for technical needs of the Department of Astronomy; acts as contact for the Department of Astronomy, representing, and advocating on full range of IT matters including risk management, audit, emerging technologies and standards, practices and procedures; brings college and university level change initiatives and best practices to the Department of Astronomy; other duties as assigned; may require occasional evening or weekend hours.
