The Great American Eclipse

Map of the Eclipse Path
August 21, 2017
All Day
Main Campus

The first total solar eclipse visible from the continential US in 38 years will happen on August 21, 2017! Called the Great American Eclipse, the path of totality will cross the US from Oregon to South Carolina, including sites in Kentucky and Tennessee that are as close as a few hundred miles from Columbus. While the eclipse will not appear total from Columbus, observers here will see nearly 89% of the sun covered by the New Moon. The show will start shortly after 1:00pm, and the largest fraction of the Sun will be covered at about 2:30 EDT. Check out the Eclipse 2017 webpage for more information about the eclipse, as well as ways to view it safely from campus and elsewhere. Remember to never look at the Sun directly, even during an eclipse, as this will rapidly cause permanent eye damage.
