Discussions About the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT), Maunakea, and the Progression of Hawaiian Culture

Speaker: Makana Silva (OSU)

The construction and presence of the TMT have sparked tense dialogue and activism throughout the state of Hawaiʻi and the world. Amongst the dialogue, there is a continuum of perspectives, voices, and issues surrounding this topic. The point of this discussion is to engage in conversations with people who have varying perspectives on the topic, hear a particular perspective from someone born and raised on the islands, and hear about how, from his experience and nurture on Hawaiʻi, this project and similar ones could help perpetuate the legacy and continuity of modern Hawaiian culture.
